Damn you Berkeley County...Give us permits already!!!

So, last post had us tentatively starting our house on the 3rd of march, but  after exchanging an email with our SR, he said it is probably not going to happen. The Reason: BERKELEY COUNTY 's interpretation of some new code and their reluctance to grant permits for Ryan Trusses. Berkeley county is the only county in 13 states that has not granted permits because of this Truss issue. Now apparently Ryan's architectural department is working with them on fixing this issue.. I must say, I'm starting to get a little annoyed (well, actually pissed off to put it frankly) on the whole issue. They already have a Florence Model framed in our neighborhood, so I don't understand the delay. How can 13 states be fine with Ryan Homes trusses, and Berkeley County isn't?  The waiting game continues.

  1. Hi,

We are building a Ravenna model in VA and we had permit issues also. Very frustrating. Any updates?

  2. Nope, no updates as of yet. Last I heard they were hoping to get permits this week and a tentative start date of 24 March, but i'm not very optimistic it will get resolved by then.

  3. I'm sorry that is really annoying. We were only delayed almost 3 weeks and I was frustrated. Good luck, hopefully they can begin next week!

  4. Thanks. I won't hold my breath but we will be happy once they break ground or do something. Makes me jealous of my neighbors house which is already framed while we are at a stand still.

    1. Yea I bet. Well we are a little upset now even after the permit issues as we have been waiting almost 10 days to begin framing. Our lumber has been there almost 10 full days just sitting and "waiting for a framing crew." Everything was going good until this point and now at another stand still. So hopefully that doesn't happen to you after this long permit hold.

  5. Friends of mine building in same neighborhood are also at a stand still. Their lumber is sitting in front of their lot for about 2 months now waiting on the permit, which they originally had, but since the floorplan had to be reversed, it was resubmitted and boooyaaa, new county code is holding us both up. I just want to see some progress. Move some dirt around or something! lol

  6. Found out Friday that finally our permit has been granted. SR says that there are two other houses they need to start before mine, but he will call next week to set up pre-construction meeting. Might see some dirt digging in a few weeks. Will update ya as soon as we know more :)
